11 Ways To Distract Your Mind To Stop A Panic Attack

There are a few ways that you can use to stop panic attacks before the symptoms peak. To do this, you must take action as soon as you feel a panic attack developing.

These methods work by distracting your mind and your thoughts. These are quick fix to your anxiety and panic will not cure it. Regardless, they do work and will help you take your mind of the panic and anxiety that you feel developing.

1. Call a friend and start talking about something. Do not talk about your anxiety or panic. Just talk about something important.

2. Start listening to your favorite song at a loud volume and start singing along with it.

3. Indulge in some physical activity. Go take a walk or go running if you like.

4. Eat an apple. Drink some water. Eat another apple if you like.

5. Start counting backwards from 100. Start doing some math problems in your head. Take up a puzzle and start solving it. For example, start squaring 2, i.e. multiply 2 by 2, and then multiply the answer that is 4 by 2, and continue doing that.

6. Turn on the television and start watching some funny TV shows. Start laughing out loud.

7. Splash your face with cold water. This sends a signal to your brain to calm down.

8. DO NOT look yourself in the mirror. Don’t introspect; instead look outside in the world. DO NOT START ANALYZING YOURSELF.

9. If you have a nocturnal panic attack. Get out of bed, drink something, and eat an apple. Turn on the TV and watch something for 15 minutes until you feel calm.

10. Keep doing something and keep moving. DO NOT SIT DOWN.

11. Open up YouTube and Start watching some funny videos. And actually laugh out loud while watching them.

These techniques, even though are not a permanent cure can help a lot in stopping a panic attack. They will give you a sense of confidence that you are able to control your panic attacks with some techniques. Once you are confidence enough, you can start using more aggressive techniques to completely subdue the panic.

Remember, the key in panic attack treatment is BELIEVING that the panic attacks cannot hurt you and you are suffering from an anxiety disorder which can be cured. The key is BELIEVING in yourself that you have the power to cure panic attacks and your anxiety disorder.
